There's a peacock blue onesie in the donate pile right now. Long sleeves, little flowers all over it. Two dollars at Once Upon a Child. I don't know if it was the way it made her eyes look bluer or if it was just a color I loved, but she lived in it, and now I can't quite put it in the bag.
This week I've been slowly and begrudgingly going through what feels like every piece of clothing Rosie has ever worn, organizing it to donate, to sell, and a few to keep in her memory box. The zero to three to the eighteen month pile. Every single stage, and every single stage I just want to hold on to. At one point I found the tiny pumpkin sweater from the photo above and tossed it at my mom, because it was either laugh or cry.
Now, disclaimer. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am not Marie Kondo. I barely hang up Rosie's clothes. I don't own a label maker, and half the bins in my closet where said labels would go are empty. My clothes live stacked on my bed, or on a chair, or in the laundry basket. So this was an overwhelming task. But I don't want her to grow up and tell a therapist her mother was a hoarder.
Some of these pieces carry a whole memory in them. Even the ones that weren't for special occasions were just the ones she lived in, played in, and wore over and over again. The more she grows, the more we accumulate.
All the “time is a thief” and “the days are long but the years are short” clichés in the world could not have prepared me for how quickly time would actually pass.

Rosie is eighteen months old, so we are not buying back-to-school clothes yet. However, we are looking at a new season of clothes for my girl, who, according to her growth chart, will be 6'3" and fabulous which means I cannot keep up with her wardrobe. So, I did the shopping so you don’t have to.
This post is all about champagne taste on a single mom budget. I love smocking and vintage and Peter Pan collars, things that look boutique but aren't. Rosie had this one in another fabric and wore it countless times. We're big fans of this brand. She's had several of their styles, and they're a good go-to when you want to spend less than fifteen bucks. Long sleeves, ruffles, 8 colors, sized 3 months to 2T.

Fall Baby Clothes Questions, Answered
What is a bubble outfit, exactly?
A bubble is a one-piece with a gathered, puffed shape through the legs and bottom, elastic at the leg openings, and snaps underneath for changes. The extra room means nothing squeezes over the diaper and nothing rides up the way separates do. Bubbles have been around forever, and the shape is forgiving, so they tend to fit longer than fitted pieces. You'll sometimes see them called a summer thing. Pair one with some tights on your baby in October and tell me it's a summer thing.
What's the difference between 24 months and 2T?
Diapers. A 24-month piece is cut for a baby still in them, with extra room through the bottom and usually snaps. A 2T is cut leaner and taller for a potty-trained toddler, with easier waistbands for getting pants down fast. They're close in measurements, so if your kid is between them, let the diaper decide.
Should I size up in fall baby clothes?
Yes: size up from their typical size, not their age. Rosie's size has never matched her age, and plenty of babies run the other direction. She grows so fast that a piece that fits perfectly in September can be too small by Halloween. I'm not trying to get two years out of anything. I'm trying to get the whole season, not just two weeks of it. So I size up from wherever she actually is, she grows into it as it gets colder, and the outfit makes it to Thanksgiving. The exception is anything reviewers say runs large, like the gingham romper on this list. Read the fit notes. They're in every section for exactly this reason.
